ADOPTED! Maya the Monarch Requests You at Court

ADOPTED! Maya the Monarch Requests You at Court

Of all God’s four-legged creatures, cats seem to know (perhaps more than any) how beautiful they are.  Four-month-old Maya certainly does.  Maya moves with all the regal grace and bearing of a crowned monarch as she benevolently reigns her foster mother’s home.  She holds court every afternoon, when the sun is at just the right place to catch her best side, in the cushy, comfortable cat room, where she allows her humans to approach and admire her…and of course wait on her hand and foot! Maya and her siblings have come a long way since our SNAP volunteer rescued them.  Maya doesn’t like to mention it because it’s not very regal at all, but when she was found, she was literally eating food from the ground that had fallen from a dumpster at an apartment complex.  Even though it took some time for Maya to get used to her foster home, she was very relieved that someone spotted her highborn station and took her to safe surroundings. As you can see, Maya is a silvery brown with unusually dramatic markings.  If she looks familiar, you might remember her brother, Bart, who SNAP helped place a few weeks ago.  Maya sports sassy thigh-high white stockings on her hind legs, twitches her long white whiskers to get your attention, and surveys her domain through dreamy gray-green eyes that are framed in dark brown and tilt up.  She has a sweet peachy-brown nose (accented by dark brown) and pink paw pads. Her front paws have tiny white socks, and she has a soft white bib. Maya’s faithful cat-in-waiting is Toby, a gorgeous orange young gentleman, who Maya has requested also be relocated to her new royal quarters.  Maya hails from the Buford Highway area in Atlanta, but is willing to consider any offers of suitable housing that come her way. As a young monarch, Maya enjoys her playing with her cat toys (including Toby!) and prefers to sleep on her cat trees.  She entertains herself well, but will benefit from being in a home with other animals, particularly because she is still a kitten.  However, Maya doesn’t demand constant attention…just attention when she wants it. Like all SNAP kitties, Maya is spayed and microchipped, as well as current on all vaccinations and tests. Maya and Toby will be moving into the PetSmart permanent adoption center at the Howell Mill & I-75 N. location in the middle of February, and can’t wait to meet you.  Maya has agreed to offer royal dispensation on the whole bowing and curtsy routine, too.  If you have questions or want to schedule a time to play with Maya, just drop us a note.  You can also pre-apply to adopt Maya...

Smokey, a Distinguished Gray Haired Bachelor

Update: Smokey no longer needs any special food. He is fine on just a good quality food. Previously: Matchmaking the perfect family and lonely kitty at a crowded adoption event is a lot like speed dating: it’s hard to focus, let alone actually get to know each other!  At least that’s been handsome Smokey’s experience up until now. Like many kitties, Smokey needs to get to know people before he can really let loose and show them his personality.  At noisy adoption events, it can be hard for Smokey to put his best food forward.  That’s why Smokey, at 2 years old, is still looking for his perfect home. As a last resort, we convinced Smokey to try online dating.  He agreed to let us take a shot at writing his lonely-hearts ad.  Tell us what you think! You can probably guess why I’m named Smokey.  I’m a lovely gray – my full mane of soft fur is my best feature – and my foster mother tells me that I move from room to room just like a puff of smoke, too.  I have clear green eyes, a white muzzle, and long white whiskers. I feel a little silly writing you instead of gathering up the courage to meet you in person, but I thought if we got to know each other this way first, it might make things a little easier. I’m a young cat –  just two years old – so I have a lot of years of loving left in me!  When it’s just me and my foster mother, I love to lounge in her lap and make little kitty biscuits on her stomach.  My favorite Big Daddy Smokes position is stretched out completely on my back so that you can give me tummy rubs. But if a stranger enters the room….poof!  I become – you guessed it – a cloud of smoke.  I get along just fine with other cats but haven’t been around dogs very much.  It’s humans that spook me sometimes, that’s all.  Please don’t take it personally. It’s not that I don’t trust you…I’m just one of those really shy guys who has to get to know you first.  After I give you my heart, though, buckle up for the full Smokey love experience! You should know that I have to have a special type of food – not gourmet or anything, you can buy it at a regular store – but I do have a sensitive tummy.  My foster mom can tell you all about it.  I’m not a picky eater, though.  I’m very healthy, neutered so no pesky tomcat behavior, and even microchipped! My perfect home would have people who are loving and patient enough to let me settle in before they expect too much interaction with me.  My new family members will let me set my own boundaries…but I promise, I won’t take too long to settle in.  I can be an only cat, or hang out with other cats – doesn’t matter much to me!  I hope you don’t think I’m cheap or anything for bringing it up. Are you Smokey’s true love, or can you set him up with the perfect match?  We’d love to start a conversation between you two, so drop us a line to set it up.  You can also pre-apply to adopt Smokey online.  We promise, you won’t regret...

ADOPTED! Sleek, Mod Sophistication: Emma Peal

ADOPTED! Sleek, Mod Sophistication: Emma Peal

Emma (named for one of the icons of mod, Emma Peal) is a lovely female tuxedo kitty who lives at a SNAP foster home.  Emma was homeless when she gave birth to a large litter of kittens, but she and her offspring were lucky enough to get placed into loving foster care.  Although Emma adores her foster mother, they’ve decided it’s time for Emma to find her forever home! Emma – or Ms. Peal – is a stylish lap cat decked out in black and white mod sophistication.  She adores attention, doesn’t want to be left out of any of the action, and likes to be petted.  If you hold out your hand, Emma has a charming way of leaning into it so that you can reach that special spot under her chin. Emma’s trust, when she places her head in your hand and begs for affection, will melt your heart in a second.  Even though she is a mother, Emma is still a young cat, under two years old. When we visited, Emma was so excited to see visitors that she would not sit still for her pictures!  As you can see, she has long white whiskers, amber-green eyes, and pretty white go-go boots.  She’s a classic tuxedo dame with a white bib and mostly black face.  You may not be able to tell in these pictures, but her tail has the cutest way of forming a little shepherd’s crook when she’s happy – and that’s most of the time. Emma lives in a foster home with multiple other kitties, so she could join an existing cat family – but we also think she would be fine as an only cat.  Because of that, Emma’s future forever family could take many forms: an addition to an existing pet family, an only cat, a companion for existing kitties, or company around the house for a work-at-homer or retiree. Emma can’t wait to meet you.  What time is best for you?  Just let us know and we’ll do everything we can to make it happen.  You can pre-apply to adopt Emma online, too.  Like all SNAP animals, Emma is spayed, up to date on vaccinations and tests, and...

ADOPTED! Gentle Jezebel, Watercolor Hued Dilute Calico Kitty, Adoptable in Atlanta

ADOPTED! Gentle Jezebel, Watercolor Hued Dilute Calico Kitty, Adoptable in Atlanta

Gentle Jezebel is what is known as a dilute calico because of the delicate, watercolor peach and gray shades (with the occasional spot of gold) of her cloud-soft fur.  She has luxuriously long white whiskers, fluffy soft-as-silk fur, and glowing green-gold eyes that highlight the gold portions of her fur. When she sits still, in just the right light, Jezebel is a living piece of feline art. Jezebel’s foster mother rescued gentle Jezebel from an apartment complex on Buford Highway in Atlanta. We don’t know a lot about Jezzie’s early life – she is a year and a half old now – but think that at one time she had a family.  When she was found, poor Jezebel was struggling to swallow because of a kitten-sized flea collar she had long outgrown…but of course could not remove without human help.  Did she wander off from her family?  Was she abandoned?  We’ll never know the answers, but are thankful she showed up one night when our SNAP volunteer was feeding other cats.  When Jezebel begged for food, our volunteer took in her too-small collar, matted fur, and incredibly sweet disposition and took her home without hesitation. Jezebel’s foster mother looks forward to her daily chats with her pretty feline visitor.  Jezzie knows how to make her wishes known, especially when she wants wet food!  She tolerates other cats, but Jezebel would probably prefer being the only feline in a household.  Her foster mother explains that Jezebel is a self-sufficient young cat, and maneuvers in her current foster environment very well, which is probably a by-product of living on the street.  Jezebel can get along with anyone. Jezebel loves the company of humans, and escorts her foster mother from room to room. We believe that because of Jezebel’s sweet temperament and endless patience she would do well with children, too. Jezzie’s favorite snooze spots include napping with her foster mother in a human bed, or curled up in her cat tree.  For such a beauty, she is low maintenance except when she begs for tummy rubs! Jezebel is ready to bring her living art to your home gallery.  This scrumptious girl is fully vetted, spayed, up to date on all shots and tests, and ready to meet her forever family.  As an adult, her adoption fee is only $25, too.  Jezebel’s foster mother would love to arrange a meeting between you and Jezebel, so drop us a note to set up a first date.  You can also pre-apply to adopt Jezebel...

ADOPTED!! And the Award Goes to….Oscar! Adoptable Action Hero Kitten, Atlanta.

ADOPTED!! And the Award Goes to….Oscar! Adoptable Action Hero Kitten, Atlanta.

Slim, sleek, and well-groomed, Oscar is a dashing thunderbolt of kitten energy who spends his days prowling along the wall, hiding the shadow of cat trees and stalking unsuspecting multi-colored toy mice with lethal focus. Watching Oscar with his kitten roommates is a delight as they pounce and roll and tackle and dive.  Oscar, in particular, quickly catapults from bench to ledge to cage and back again in record time, landing with complete grace and tumbling into his customary somersault.  Oscar is the picture of active, playful, kittenhood, and he can’t wait to leave the adoption center and venture into the big wild world. Like all seasoned hunters, Oscar knows that blending in is key and has chosen a monochromatic color scheme:  his black nose, black paw pads and black whiskers compliment his black fur.  He has deep green eyes, and the smallest bit of white fluff under his chin.  Once you get to know him, he’ll even let you pet it. Oscar gets along very well with other cats, and was born at his foster mother’s home, so he’s had a good start to his life.  His ideal family would be one with other animals to play with, plenty of room to rehearse and act out his next action adventure script, and most of all, plenty of interaction and love from his humans. We would love to introduce you to Oscar.  Drop us a note, or pre-apply to adopt Oscar...

ADOPTED@!!!!! Mad About Mango: Playful Tropical-Colored Adoptable Kitten, Atlanta

If you are a SNAP follower, you might remember Papaya and Guava, who were adopted over Christmas.  Mango is their oh-so-active brother who, at the time of their adoption was absent from SNAP’s line up because he went exploring in an unused fireplace and ended up covered with soot!  After a few other adventures, Mango is now all cleaned up and ready for action. In September of last year, a nice lady found Mango’s pregnant mother and took her to a veterinarian. Mango was born at the vet’s office, and lived there during his first days.  Today he is a cuddly, active, all-kitten ball of fur that demands your attention and steals your heart – quickly. Mango is predominantly white, with a sweet peach nose and peach paw pads.  He has delicious mango-colored patches scattered in his coat: his tail is mostly mango, and there are patches of mango on his head, with one mango tabby-like strip off of his pretty green eyes.  He’s sort of a patchwork mango cream kitten that will grow into a striking adult.  His fur is short but thick, and feels wonderful beneath your hands. Mango has long white whiskers and perky ears that glow pink…that he loves to have rubbed!  He’s very curious and persistently head-bumped the camera while we were trying to capture him in action. Mango gets along very well with his other kitten-mates at the PetSmart adoption center near Howell Mill & I-75, where he currently lives.  He loves playing, and darts from one friend to the next to tackle, jump, and roll.  He also seeks out human attention, and enjoys affection and playtime.  One of the best things about Mango is that he adores dogs, as you can see from the picture below Because he is an active kitten, typical for his age, Mango should be adopted to a home that has other animals that want to play.  He will also benefit from – and bond – by having humans in his life who play with him regularly and help expend that kitten energy in socializing games. Aren’t you mad for Mango, too?  Drop us a note to set up a meeting, or pre-apply to adopt online.  We can’t wait for you to meet...

ADOPTED! Chillaxed Curry, Expert Foot Swimmer and Biscuit Maker, Seeks Atlanta Home: Adoptable Adult Male Cat

ADOPTED! Chillaxed Curry, Expert Foot Swimmer and Biscuit Maker, Seeks Atlanta Home: Adoptable Adult Male Cat

Don’t let Curry’s spicy name fool you.  This gentle young orange/buff tabby is as mellow and people-friendly as they come.  With pale yellow/green eyes, long white whiskers and a peach nose, Curry is ready to purr for you. Curry was dumped in an Atlanta neighborhood where he went from door to door until he found a friendly family who eventually settled him with a SNAP volunteer last week.  Curry’s personality emerged within moments:  he is relaxed, friendly (already bestowing kitty biscuits on his fosters) and likes to talk to people.  Curry and his foster mom worked co-authored the perfect introduction, with Curry comfortably settled on her desk as you can see below, reminding her to spell check. Dear Atlanta Future Family: My name is Curry, but my new foster Mom calls me Cuddle Monkey.  I will answer to either, because I just like to have conversations with engaging people! Are you looking for a cuddly, sweet, and attentive kitty? I am just the fella for you! I just love to cuddle, sit in your lap, lay on your desktop, and swim around your feet. I just want to love you and be loved by you. I am so happy to be inside. I was dumped in a neighborhood and lived outside in the cold, where I went from home to home, looking for someone to take me in. I finally found a warm, caring foster family. But I’d love nothing more than to go to a real home where I can lay on your lap and make biscuits on your tummy. I am super friendly, love to be held, and very chatty. I’ll tell you all about it! I am easy going, and laid back. I would be fine as an only pet and I will keep you warm and happy with my purrs and biscuits! XOXO, Curry Because of his sweet disposition, Curry would fit in well in multiple situations.  He can be an only cat, he would be perfect for a work-at-homer who wants mellow company, and would be ideal for a shut in or senior who just wants some companionship.  Orange tabbies are known for their friendly disposition, and this delicately-colored buff boy will spice up any home. As soon as Curry is fully vetted, he’ll be ready for adoption.  We think he’s around 2 – 3 years old, and like all SNAP cats will be microchipped, vaccinated and tested.  If you have a small corner where Curry would fit, drop us a note and let us know.  This gentle boy would love to meet you.  You can pre-apply to adopt Curry online,...

ADOPTED!!! Prankster Bonkers Livens Up Any Party: Adoptable Atlanta 7-mo Kitty

ADOPTED!!! Prankster Bonkers Livens Up Any Party: Adoptable Atlanta 7-mo Kitty

It’s pretty easy to go bonkers over Bonkers.  Bonkers, an orange tabby with glowing amber eyes, a peach nose, and long white whiskers has a captivating slapstick sense of humor that will keep you entertained.  His latest trick is that when his foster dad bends over, Bonkers hops up and does his best Low Rider imitation (you can see he looks pretty pleased with himself in the pictures).  Bonkers also likes to groom his humans – their hair, in particular – to help keep them nice and tidy.  He enjoys being the center of attention and is always glad to take a pratfall to get a laugh. This seven-month-old young man was rescued from a shelter when he was just a baby. We’ve included some baby pictures below so that you can see just how special he is.  Bonkers is very social and loves hanging out with people, other cats, and gets along fine with dogs.  He adores human interaction and eagerly joins in games (especially if they involve a moving feather), responds to your voice (even though he may ignore requests to stop with the grooming), and basically just wants to be part of the family. Even though Bonkers likes to play hard, his foster mother asked us to share that he is a gentle young man who understands that claws are not for scratching people!  Because Bonkers has shown himself to be gentle with young cats, dogs, and children, we think he would shine in a home with children who may be too young for a tiny kitten.  At 7 months, he’s the perfect age to become a little one’s new best friend.  Because Bonkers is so strongly social, we would prefer to place him in a home that has other animals. Bonkers is busy working on his next trick (he won’t tell us what it is), waiting to meet you and show it off.  Let us know when you’d like to get together!  This handsome young man is neutered, up to date on all shots and vaccinations, and microchipped.  You can also pre-apply to adopt him online. PS: Bonkers dug out this old video from when he was just a kitten. Wasn’t he cute!! [tube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SP0w7qyCfKY&feature=plcp[/tube] Bonkers is pretty pleased with himself, grooming his foster...

(ADOPTED!) Fearless Flynn Waiting for His Forever Family: ATL Adoptable 2-Year Old Dog

(ADOPTED!) Fearless Flynn Waiting for His Forever Family: ATL Adoptable 2-Year Old Dog

Just look at this dashing, intelligent, pup.  Big liquid brown eyes…perky black ears…distinctive markings around his eyes that always make him look like he’s listening intently and is a little concerned…and lots of orange-y tan and black fur. This distinguished face belongs to SNAP’s newest canine guest, Flynn, named for the hero of the movie Tangled.  Just like the Disney Flynn, SNAP’s Flynn has a huge heart and plenty of charm.  Flynn loves people and does well with children, but would rather not ever, ever, ever see a cat! Flynn is a Pincher and Beagle mix with some hound or Shepard mixed in as well. He has the pretty markings of a Pincher and is medium sized, only 30 lbs. This fully grown dynamo still looks like a puppy, even though he is two years old.  Flynn is very pleased with how well he is aging even though his life got off to a rough start. Flynn made his way to SNAP after his owner just put him outside one day and left him there!  This poor little man was picked up by Animal Control, and then came to live with SNAP volunteers and wait until his real family finds him. Here are the things that Flynn thinks his real family should know: Flynn is house broken, so no work to do there! Flynn is smart, too, and is learning basic commands such as sit and down. He already knows drop it and leave it. Flynn loves to play fetch!  He will run and bring anything back to you..again and again! Flynn is a very fast learner and his foster mother has found it easy to train with treats. One of Flynn’s favorite things to do is go for a ride in the car! He also likes to snuggle with his human family on the couch at night. Given a choice, Flynn would rather sleep with you in bed than anywhere else! Flynn is crate trained as well but really likes to be with people.  Flynn’s foster mother tells us that he is the perfect dog for an active family with children or other dogs. Flynn definitely needs to run around and burn off his energy; compared to other dogs his size, he has a normal energy level.  Flynn’s blue sky dream home would have a fenced yard and someone home all day to hang out.  If this doesn’t quite describe you but you really think Flynn is the dog of your dreams, drop us a line to ask questions or explore options.  We can arrange a meet and greet, help you and Flynn get to know each other, and see if it might be a good fit.  You can also apply with no obligation to pre-adopt Flynn online. Flynn is fixed, chipped, up to date on shots and heartworm negative.  And most of all, Flynn is shivering with excitement over meeting his real forever family. PS:  Flynn wants to remind you…NO...

Molly Flies Through the Air with the Greatest of Ease (ATL adoptable kitten)

We introduced the tiny tortie Molly to our SNAP friends a few weeks ago, but the latest pictures from her foster mother were so adorable we had to share.  Just look at Molly.  Molly cuddles, Molly sits up on two legs, and Molly ….(drum roll) flies through the air!  According to her foster mother, Molly loves being the center of attention and will roll over and over to get tummy rubs.  When she finally gets them, she lies contentedly on her back and makes air-biscuits in approval. Molly is still looking for her forever home.  She’s such a sweet girl and has so very much to discuss with you.  To book a good time to talk, drop us a line.  You can also pre-apply to adopt Molly online. These are the pictures from Molly’s original posting. She’s...
