Remembering an Animal Lover’s Hero

The animals of our world can never have too many friends. William Boettcher was not just an advocate for man’s best friend, but for all living creatures.  William, a pilot and a carpenter, devoted much of his free time to activities such as advocating for spay and neuter programs, educating the public about the issues surrounding feral animal populations, and participating in fundraisers for different organizations.  One friend described William this way: “Nothing was ever too much effort for William when it came to helping animals, or the weak and less fortunate.  He was a kind and gentle man.  He never walked away, and he never turned his back.” Rescuing a litter of abandoned kittens (shown above using William for climbing practice) was William’s last animal rescue project before he passed away early in 2012. William piloted many flights for skydivers.  In the gallery below, you’ll see photos of a memorial jump in William’s honor, where his wife, closest friends and loved ones scattered his ashes.  Note the Memorial teddy bears; they are made from William’s sky dive jump suit. In memorial, SNAP volunteer Catherine Cooper sponsored the refitting of two stalls in SNAP’s feral housing barn in William’s honor.   It’s funny how dogs and cats know the inside of folks better than other folks do, isn’t it?  -Elenor H....

In Loving Memory of Day Day

Day Day was rescued from Sonic on Highway 5 in Georgia.  He had a broken femur.  After trying for two months to get him into a trap, with the help of another animal lover and her family, we finally succeeded – sadly, not before Day Day had been hit by a car.  I explained to the vet, Dr. Wilson, that I didn’t believe this poor cat was feral at all because he was used to being spoken to by everyone at Sonic. We held a fund raiser to pay for Day Day’s surgeries.  He had to stay in the cage for 6 weeks while he healed, and he just purred up a storm.  Day Day was a total love bug.  He drooled when you loved on him and just thanked me every day for taking care of him.  We estimated his date of birth to be September 2008. OUR PRAYER FOR DAY DAY HAVE YOU A PET IN HEAVEN, LORD?IS THERE ROOM FOR JUST ONE MORE?CAUSE MY PRECIOUS FRIEND DIED TODAY;HE’LL BE WAITING AT YOUR DOORPLEASE TAKE HIM INTO HEAVEN, LORDAND KEEP HIM THERE FOR ME. JUST FEED HIM, PET HIM, AND LOVE HIM LORD. THAT’S ALL HE’LL ASK OF...
