Gray & White Dynamic Kitten Duo Join SNAP Crew: Atlanta area adoptable kittens

Gray & White Dynamic Kitten Duo Join SNAP Crew: Atlanta area adoptable kittens

These sweet and playful brothers, Guava and Papaya, have taken up residence at the PetSmart adoption center at I-75 & Howell Mill Road in Atlanta.  Although at first glance they may seem hard to tell apart, Guava has a dark nose; his brother, Papaya, has an all pink nose.  They both have dreamy gray-green eyes and long white whiskers. Even though yesterday was their first day at the center, they made themselves right at home.  Because they’ve been living at a veterinarian’s office, they are used to being handled, get along fine with other cats, and even like dogs!  They hung out with the other (and much bigger) cats, met some of our visitors (Papaya, in particular, seems to like being cuddled), and performed some acrobatics on our cat trees for an appreciative audience.  They are so friendly, it was hard to get a picture of them because they wanted to head butt the camera! Guava and Papaya have gotten off to a healthy start in life, since their mother was rescued just a few days before she gave birth and cared for by Atlanta animal lovers.  They were born in early September, and have been neutered, microchipped and are ready to go to their forever home.  They are up to date on all the shots they are old enough to have received at this point. These bonded brothers will be adopted as a pair.  They would love to meet you!  You can stop by the I-75 & Howell Mill adoption center any time to view them, or come by on weekend afternoons when the center is manned by SNAP volunteers.  Feel free to email us for more details or fill in an online adoption...

Tiny Tortie Peppercorn, Adoptable Kitten, Joins Atlanta Howell Mill Crew

Yesterday, three new kittens arrived at the I-75 & Howell Mill PetSmart adoption center in Atlanta.  This tiny girl, just over 3 pounds of purrs and fluff, stole our hearts immediately.  Although she was a little shy her first day, Peppercorn quickly warmed up and played with her friends and purred nicely for the volunteers.  She likes to be held, enjoyed chasing the feather toys, and climbed the tall, tall cat tree with no problem! Tiny Ms. Pepper was found by a good samaritan, who sponsored her care at an Atlanta-area veterinarian before she joined SNAP’s crew. Peppercorn will grow into her striking tortie good looks, and will have a lovely cream, brown and orange mask around her hazel green eyes.  She is already very sweet natured, and can be adopted alone to a home that can give her plenty of attention.  Peppercorn likes other cats and dogs too! Peppercorn is spayed, microchipped and up to date on all her shots.  You can see her any time at the Howell Mill and I-75 PetSmart, email us for more details, or fill in an adoption application online.  Volunteers are around every weekend afternoon to introduce you in person to the adorable Ms. Pepper,...

ADOPTED!!!! Ginger Siblings For Adoption: Meet Brutus and Brody, Atlanta area

Brutus and Brody, two little orange and white kittens, love to tumble and hide and chase and climb…then rest for a second and do it all over again.  They are high energy but full of affection, and love to be petted and snuggled.  They will nestle on your shoulder or in the bend of your arm, while they follow the movements in the room with big, wide, eyes.  Kittens Brutus and Brody joined the SNAP family after being born into care at Animal Control, and are now living at the PetSmart Howell Mill Adoption Center.  You can tell them apart because Brutus (who is definitely not a brute) has a white smudge on his tiny nose.  They both have lovely little white booties. Brutus and Brody are neutered, fully vetted, current on all shots and tests, and microchipped.  Because they are tightly bonded, they should be adopted as a pair.  They are ready to meet their forever family now, in time for the holidays!  Come by the PetSmart at I75 & Howell Mill weekend afternoons after 1 to speak with an adoption counselor, or stop by any time during store hours to view the kittens.  You can also apply to adopt...

ADOPTED! Hanging with Adoptable SNAP Kitties on a Perfect Atlanta Autumn Day

ADOPTED! Hanging with Adoptable SNAP Kitties on a Perfect Atlanta Autumn Day

Today was a gorgeous autumn day here in Atlanta, and it seemed like the whole town was out and about – including our SNAP foster parents who brought their SNAP wards to PetSmart to meet prospective homes. Oliver and Olivia are a tightly bonded male/female pair of siblings.  As you can see, Oliver is as black as night while Olivia is a chocolate point Siamese.  Our volunteers call them “Oriental twins” because they both have beautiful tilted eyes, well-sculpted faces with distinctive profiles, and delicate limbs.  Adopting these two would adding a piece of living piece of artwork to your home. Olivia’s eyes are pale blue, and Oliver, who we call the Black Pearl because he is incredibly soft – and rare – has lovely green eyes.  Oliver and Olivia must be adopted as a set. Today was the first day at PetSmart for Girlie and her two children, Angel and Andy.  They were trapped at the Red Lobster in Stone Mountain, and are being fostered by a SNAP volunteer.  They are all a little nervous at the attention, but show promising signs of becoming used to human handling.  Andy is a handsome orange male, and was very laid back (as evidenced by his mother, Girlie, using him as a bed most of the afternoon).  Angel is fluffy and will grow into a gorgeous multicolored long-haired love bug. Carl is a handsome, easy to love all-black male. He’s very affectionate and loves to sleep with his foster mother and foster cat friend Pringles every night.  Carl is about a year old, and is the last of his siblings to be adopted.  Carl and his siblings were rescued from an apartment complex when they were just a few days old, where they were found abandoned in a breezeway in a locked pet carrier.  Carl has come a long way since then, and is waiting to meet his forever family. Oscar just arrived into SNAP’s care.  Oscar was rescued by a loving family and well-taken care of; you can tell by how nicely he adjusted to strangers handling him and how comfortable he is with being petted and held.  Unfortunately, the family’s landlord changed their pet policies and they were not able to afford the exorbitant deposit and monthly charge, so they reluctantly asked us to find him a home.  Oscar met lots of nice people looking for beautiful kitties just like him today! Tiny Rae, who is our cover girl on the SNAP web site this week, is available for adoption, too.  Rae has wide-set gentle eyes, loves to play with her furry mouse and dunk it in her water bowl, and adores attention.  Rae was rescued from a trailer park where SNAP maintains a relationship with the caregivers.  This gentle buff kitten is active and curious, and pets your cheek with her paw if you look away for too long when she wants to play! A handsome foursome – Bobby, Pammy, Pip, and Paula – kept us entertained at PetSmart by lining up in perfect symmetry and watching the world go by.  These lovely siblings all have distinctive personalities and are waiting patiently to meet their forever family.  They have all been fostered together, and are very friendly, and adore being around humans. Even though he’s still a kitten, Andy is chillaxed and happy to watch what happens next. Andy and his sibling Angel and mother Girlie were rescued from a Red Lobster. Pretty Angel! Posing for the camera her first day at PetSmart. Angel was a little nervous today, but will grow into a striking cat. She is...

New Kitten Adoption Day at Howell Mill PetSmart

New Kitten Adoption Day at Howell Mill PetSmart

SNAP believes that socializing cats and kittens so that they will be ready to live with humans in forever homes is one of the keys to successful adoption. Because of that, we rotate the cats and kittens that live 24/7 in the Howell Mill PetSmart adoption center every few weeks. Last weekend, a new group of visitors came to stay for a few weeks.  Won’t you come by and say hello?  Liz and Zander.  Liz and Zander caught SNAP followers’ attention when we held a chip-in for them a few weeks ago to raise money for their eye surgery.  Due to exposure to harmful living conditions and disease before they came into SNAP’s care, both of these little ones lost an eye – but you can see for yourself that they are happy and healthy, and doing just fine, by visiting them at the PetSmart.  Many continued thanks to all who have made their recovery possible. Brittany is a lovely, sweet little one that immediately flipped on her back and demanded belly rubs when we met her.  Although she may seem shy at first, once she has your attention, it’s hard to put her down. Whiskey has lots of fluff – but is really very tiny beneath it all.  He is playful and sweet with tiny white socks.  You may notice that one of his eyes appears damaged.  He does have some eye damage from infections when he was young, but has retained some vision in that eye.  Whiskey loves to bat around balls, bits of paper – anything you give him to play with. Sugar Lump is a slightly older white cat who loves attention and will slink circle-8s around your ankles.  She is odd eyed – one blue, one green – and seeks out human companionship. Candy Land is an unusually colored “tabico” – part tabby and part calico – that loves to be the center of attention.  Her eyes are huge and luminous and follow you wherever you go. Jenny Lynn is a very small, very shy gray kitty who is not quite sure about the adoption center yet.  However, she adores her new best friend, Rae, and SNAP would like to adopt these two bonded kittens as a pair.  Jenny Lynn was rescued while hiding out at a fire department in Douglas County. Rae is a striking young female with serious, wide set eyes and a purr that doesn’t stop.  She nuzzles her way into your hand…and your heart if you give her half a chance.  Rae has a cute little bobtail and comes from a trailer park where SNAP regularly helps control the animal population. Tortie Girl is a vocal and assertive tortie – and although she loves people and dogs, she would probably do well as the only, or dominant cat, in a...

Five Friends Find New Homes at PetSmart’s National Adoption Weekend

SNAP is delighted to share that five cats and kittens found new, forever homes during the PetSmart Animal Adoption weekend on September 15th and 16th.  SNAP-2 IT appreciates the partnership with PetSmart, our volunteers and fosters, and everyone who came out to adopt or just say hello. Gainesville, an adorable, sweet gray and white fluff ball – found a new home with a loving family who had recently, and unexpectedly, lost another cat.  Most of Gainesville’s siblings have also been adopted – all except for McDonough.  You can view McDonough any time at our Howell Mill location, where she lives full time. Parcheesi is a lovely Siamese with gorgeous blue eyes who suffers a loss of vision in one due to an eye infection when he was a kitten.  Parcheesi, the last of his siblings to be adopted, is going to live with a senior who is looking forward to his company. Johnny Boy is a lovely young adult fluffy Norwegian forest cat.  Although he is a little shy, we know that he will be right at home with his new cat guardian! Charlie Brown is a striking young adult cat with subtle shades of color throughout his black coat.  Charlie Brown was spotted online!  You can always view SNAP’s adoptable pets by viewing the listings on Petfinder. Little Johnny is a solid black purr-machine with a devilish sense of adventure.  He quickly became a favorite with volunteers and visitors alike in the permanent Howell Mill adoption center.  Johnny has gone to live in a wonderful home with two other cats, and we are excited to see how he grows.  Johnny is one of our latest Emory cats, and has multiple litter mates who are still waiting for their forever home. ADOPTED! Meet Scrabble and Yahtzee

Scrabble and Yahtzee are a pair of silky midnight black kittens with expressive eyes and long, soft fur.  In fact, the only way you can really tell them apart is that the female (Yahtzee) has an unusual streak of charcoal/white in her tail; her brother is all black and both have luminous gold/green eyes.  Scrabble (male) loves to be rubbed and arches his back in pleasure when you pet him; Yahtzee is smaller and a little shy, but purrs loudly once she gets to know you. We would like to adopt this pair of siblings together because, as you can see, they are tightly bonded.  You can visit Scrabble and Yahtzee any time at the permanent pet adoption center inside the PetSmart off of Howell Mill Road and I-75 in Atlanta. SNAP volunteers are on hand every Saturday between noon – 3 for an in-person visit.  Email snap@comcast.net for more...

New PetSmart Adoption Center Opens Volunteer Opportunities! Apply Today!

New PetSmart Adoption Center Opens Volunteer Opportunities! Apply Today!

SNAP-2 IT is thrilled to announce our expanding partnership with PetSmart.  SNAP has been given the opportunity to establish a permanent SNAP adoption center in the PetSmart store located off of Howell Mill Road in Atlanta.  As you probably know, SNAP has shown adoptable pets every Saturday afternoon at the Buckhead PetSmart for the past two years.  While we will continue showing at the Buckhead location, having a new, permanent adoption center will allow us to not only broaden the reach of people exposed to the SNAP mission and adoption opportunities, but significantly ease some of the logistics around pet transportation, supplies and adoption pick-ups. This expansion also opens up new volunteer slots in the SNAP organization.  SNAP is actively seeking applicants for several new volunteer opportunities: Animal Caregivers:  Animal Caregivers are responsible for visiting the animals in the Howell Mill PetSmart adoption center, cleaning boxes and changing food and water every morning and every night.  This includes holidays even when PetSmart is closed for the day.  Although the time commitment is small, the need for reliability cannot be overemphasized.  The animals that live full-time in the adoption center rely on the Animal Caregivers for their daily needs. We welcome split shifts if necessary. Let us know if you can help for a limited period of time (for example, twice a day for a week) or only at a certain time of day (early morning or early evening). Adoption Volunteers:  Adoption Volunteers help the public meet our adorable, adoptable pets on the weekends at one of the PetSmart locations (N. Peachtree or Howell Mill).  Adoption Volunteers greet people who stop by to see our animals, answer general questions, share SNAP’s mission and invite the public to get involved even if they don’t adopt. Adoption Volunteers also take adoption applications, put together welcome packets, and play with the pets during the event! Adoption Counselors:  Adoption Counselors are experienced rescue workers who screen adoption applications, ensure animal readiness, coordinate adoption logistics, and handle adoption fees.  Adoption Counselors may work at either location, and make home visits as needed. Interested?  Email snap@comcast.net for more details and to receive an application.
